KOO Apple Crumble

Apple crumble

KOO Apple Crumble
Recipe by Josh Wiid
Serves 4-6
Prep time : 10 min
Cooking time : 25 min
1 cup brown sugar
2 tins KOO Unsweetened Apple Slices
1 tsp cinnamon
½ tsp nutmeg
½ tsp cloves
1 ½ cups cake flour
¾ cup butter, cold, cubed
½ cup castor sugar
Ice cream / custard / cream to serve
In a pot, place the brown sugar, and drained KOO Apple Slices. Keep the liquid in case you want to thin out your apple filling once cooked.
Add the cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves, and stew gently and slowly for roughly 10 minutes, until the apples have caramelised slightly and softened some more. The filling should have visible liquid to keep the crumble moist during cooking. Add a splash of apple juice if needs be.
Combine the cake flour and sugar in a large mixing bowl. Add the cubed butter, and begin to work the flour and sugar into the butter. This process is called rubbing in, and all you are doing is forming loose breadcrumbs, which will become the topping of the crumble. Set aside.
To assemble, spoon your filling into either individual ramekins, or a larger serving dish of choice.
Cover the apple pie filling with your raw crumble in an even layer, and bake at 180 degrees Celsius for roughly 15-20 minutes. The crumble should go golden brown and crispy, and the filling beginning to bubble.

Serve with ice cream, custard or cream, and enjoy!
