Fry’s Balsamic Caramelised Onion Burger with Tumi Nqoko
Recipe inspired by Tumi Nqoko (Health and Wellness Ambassador)
Serves 2
Prep time: 15 minutes
Cooking time: 15 minutes
Ingredients:
2 Big Fry Burgers, defrosted
30ml oil for frying
2 large red onions, cut in half then sliced
1/3 cup balsamic vinegar
4 slices vegan cheese
1/3 cup water
2 fresh burger buns
Cooking Instructions:
For the onions, put your sliced onions and vinegar into a large skillet with a tight-fitting lid. If you don’t have one you can use a pot, the process will just take slightly longer. Cover and cook over medium heat for about 20 minutes.
Take off the lid and continue to cook, stirring every few minutes, until there is no liquid left. Once this happens, the onions will start to caramelise. You then add the water, stirring again until there is no liquid left. Repeat this process until the onions are fully cooked and caramelised.
For the burgers, heat the oil on high in a non-stick pan. Add the defrosted Big Fry burgers and reduce to medium heat. Fry for 9 minutes, turning occasionally.
Add the vegan cheese slices and allow to melt slightly.
Place the patties on the buns, add the caramelised onions on top, and enjoy!
Chefs Notes:
Make sure your Big Fry burger patties are completely defrosted before cooking.
Feel free to add extra garnish like lettuce, tomato, cucumber, gherkins, or even chili for a kick!
