Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time 45 minutes
INGREDIENTS
vegetable oil for frying
1 onion, chopped
1 green peeper, seeds removed and sliced
3-4 curry leaves
2 tsp garlic and ginger paste
1 tsp chilli flakes
1 tsp turmeric
2 T masala
1 T tomato paste
1kg tenderised steak
1 cup water
bunch of fresh coriander
to assemble
8 slices white bread, toasted
4 slices of tomato
4 pieces of lettuce
4 fried eggs (optional)
500g slap tjips
grated cheddar cheese (optional)
Your favourite Kasi Magic sauce: Cheese, Jalapeno & Cheese, Hot & Spicy
METHOD
Place a large pan on a medium heat and drizzle in some sunflower oil. Add onions and braise until translucent and slightly brown. Add curry leaves, garlic and ginger paste, green pepper and stir until softened. Add all of the spices along with the tomato paste and cook until toasted, stirring occasionally and taking care not to burn the spices. Add the steak and cook until soft and tender adding a splash of water along the way. Allow to gently simmer for 30-40 minutes with the lid closed until the steak is tender. Add chopped fresh coriander and set aside.
To assemble, place one slice of toast on a chopping board. Next, place a piece of lettuce and a slice of tomato on top followed by the masala steak, egg, cheese and slap tjips. Drizzle a generous amount of your favourite Kasi Magic sauce on top followed by another slice of toast. Repeat for the remaining sandwiches.
