Clover Gingerbread Family


Clover Gingerbread Family
Recipe: Daleen van der Merwe
Make: 16 – 20 large
Preparation: 20 minutes
Cooking: 10 – 12 minutes
350 ml cake flour
1 tsp bicarbonate of soda 
1½ tsp ground ginger 
100 g butter, softened
180 ml soft dark brown sugar (important)
1 egg, lightly beaten
¼ cup golden syrup
1½ cup icing sugar
1 large egg white. lightly beaten 
food colouring

Preheat the oven to 180 °C. Line baking trays with baking paper.
In a mixing bowl sift the flour, bicarbonate of soda en ginger.
Cream the butter and brown sugar in a separate bowl, add the egg and syrup en beat until smooth. 
Add it to the flour mixture and mix to a stiff dough. 
Roll the dough out on a surface lightly dusted with flour to a 3 mm thickness.
Cut out gingerbread figures with gingerbread men cutter. Remove any excess dough around the cut-out figures. 
Pack figures on the prepared baking trays and bake for 10 – 12 minutes. Cool on trays until firm.
Using a spatula to lift the gingerbread men unto a wire rack to cool completely.
Sift the icing sugar versiersuiker, add egg white and mix to a smooth paste. Divide the icing between small bowls and add food colouring of choice to each and mix. Spoon icing into small bags, snip off one corner to make piping bags. Pipe on features and clothing. Let the icing set.
Delicious served dipped in Clover Bliss Chocolate Dessert.
