Calzone

Clover calzone with cheese, ham and mushrooms

INGREDIENTS
 
Tomato sauce
1 Tbsp oil
1 onion, finely chopped,
1 pct (100 g) tomato paste
3 clove garlic, finely chopped
1 cup water
1 Tbsp sugar
salt and pepper to taste
fresh basil, finely chopped
 
Dough
1 kg ready-made white bread dough (bought)
olive oil
 
Filling
250 g Clover Gouda Cheese, grated
100 g Clover Cheddar Cheese, grated 
8 slices of ham, cut in large pieces
12 mushrooms, thinly sliced
 
METHOD
 
Tomato Sauce
Heat the oil in a pan and sauté the onion until soft. Add the tomato paste, garlic, water and sugar and simmer for 5 minutes.
Remove from the heat and season with salt and pepper. Add the basil and stir well. Let it slightly cool down.
 
Calzone
Preheat the oven to 230 °C. Sprinkle a baking tray with maze meal.
Divide the dough into 4 equal pieces. Roll each piece out in a circle, about ½ cm thick. 
Spread the tomato sauce over these dough circles.
Sprinkle the Gouda and Cheddar cheese on one half of each circle. Then place the ham pieces and mushroom slices on top. Fold the dough over the other halves.
Seal the edges by twisting the dough, starting from one side and working your way around to the other end.
Carefully transfer to the baking tray and brush the tops with olive oil. Bake for 15 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
