Today we meet Yumna Alexander, an inspiring woman from Cape Town who offers up her evenings to help high school dropouts attain their matric certificate.
Yumna Alexander dropped out of school in 2002 when she fell pregnant. Ten years later she went back to complete her matric and now at the age of 33 she’s helping others to achieve the same through the Hopeful Leaders Night School which she started in Manenberg.
The newly opened school runs classes from the local Leadership College from Monday to Thursday and has been packed with mostly parents and grandparents - some of whom are as old as 54.
A number of night school students have children of high school-going age studying the same subjects as them, such as history, maths literacy and languages.
