Whitney April joined TikTok and started posting singing videos during lockdown in 2020. Fast forward to 2021 she gets an Instagram message from Wade Jordan, an American Talent Acquisition Manager, asking if she’s interested in pursuing music.
“I was like this can’t be real, there’s no way,” she says.
By mid-2022, she was signed with management and on an airplane to Chicago to record music.
“It feels surreal, it still feels like I’m living a dream because it happened so quickly. The transition from being a teacher, then it was just me and my camera, and now they’re putting you in a studio, in front of people. But it’s so rewarding and it feels good,” says Whitney.
Her recently released single ‘Fighters’ spreads a message of upliftment and encouragement. “When I flew over last year, we laid down the vocals. We wanted to produce something that was upbeat that you can sing like an anthem.”
Whitney released an inspiring cover of Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli’s ‘The Prayer’ at the end of 2022. “It’s a song of hope. I want people to feel the music and feel the message. A lot of people are familiar with the song, and now also the new generation can hear my version of it,” she says.
She is excited for people to hear her debut EP which is soon to be released. “I’m new to song writing. I get to put one of the songs that I wrote on there. It’s very vulnerable, it’s like giving a piece of me to everybody.”
Describing the EP, she says, “it’s encouraging and uplifting – you’ll cry, you’ll laugh, you’ll dance. You’ll go through all the emotions.”
