Italian Food Expert and Chef
We welcome Italian Food Expert and Chef, Silvana Marzatico, for an Italian-inspired cook-a-long.
Growing up in Naples at the foot of Vesuvius, with a chef as a mother, food became a massive part of Silvana’s life from an early age.
The volcano left wonderful minerals in the area that allowed many vegetation to flourish, especially vegetables like potatoes. Silvana’s family ran a cantina and it was there that her love and passion for local traditional food grew.
At the age of 21, Silvana followed a boyfriend to Ruanda where she lived for 4 years before moving to Kenya for two decades. Although she had spent a lot of time outside of her home country, her Italian roots still remained and when eventually settled in Cape Town in 2009, she decided to open up Vesuvius Restaurant, where she makes authentic Italian food.
