Nue Sam
Poet
Hailing from Ladysmith, KwaZulu Natal, Nosipho Khuzwayo, better known by her stage name, Nue Sam, is an acclaimed poet whose art touches on relevant issues in society in order to help inspire and empower women across South Africa.
Today, she joins us in the loft to chat about her journey in poetry before she gives us an inspirational performance.
After falling in love with poetry in high school, Nue started posting her poetry recitals online in a weekly series called “Friday Series”. In 2018, her untitle poem touching on suicide and depression reached 1 million views on Facebook and as a result, her series caught the attention of numerous artists that decided to work with her.
That same year, Nue had a solo performance at the Newcastle Jazz Festival. Today, she is one of the first four signees at 1020 Cartel and shares her art on the label’s debut album ‘iSambulo’. Her poetry is mostly delivered in isiZulu and is both vivid and compelling.
