Matthys and Natasha du Toit
“We didn’t think that we were actually not going to see him anymore.”
A parent’s worst nightmare is losing their child, and Natasha and Matthys du Toit experienced this nightmare in September 2019 when their 20-year-old son, Franco Alfredo Deste was gunned down while out having fun with his friends.
Today they chat to us about how they overcame their grief and found a creative way to keep their son’s legacy alive.
After his passing, Natasha and Matthys received a wave of love and support from all over, and soon realised how great an impact their son had made in many people’s lives.
“It took the tragedy for us to get to know him because... after what went down, we actually learnt from other people what his life was all about.”
In high school, Franco had always wanted to start his own business and in 2016, he started a clothing brand called Afriking at the age of 17. This is what inspired his family to start the ‘Let’s Be Frank Bru’ brand. The company does 3D prints of loved ones that have passed in order to keep their memory alive, and has been a way for them to keep Franco’s legacy alive too.
