We sit down with Lukretia Booysen who has opened an art gallery that is specific to indigenous art and focuses mainly on the Khoisan and Koena heritage. Today, she explains why her mission is to celebrate and preserve this heritage.
The Koena Art Institute celebrates creativity, openness, tolerance, and generosity. The institute showcases artworks of Khoisan artists from across the country. The works showcased at the gallery reflect the narrative of the culture through the eyes of the Khoena people.
Atthe Koena Art Institute, their aim is to celebrate and preserve the Khoisan and Koena heritage by representing Koena artists and providing a platform for them to share their work and stories.
Apart from selling art online, the Koena Art Institute hosts numerous exhibitions, culture exchange programs, music and language preservation classes and capacity-building programs.
Koena Art Institute will be hosting an exhibitions on Friday, 2 April 2021 and on Thursday, 15 April. Head on over to the gallery on Friday for the Harvest Moon Event that includes an exhibition of Stanley Grootboom and Anthony Roach's work.
