Karin Kortje
Singer
Veteran Songstress, Karin Kortje, joins us in the loft to discuss the work of her eponymous foundation, new music and her upcoming one-woman concert.
For the past 15 years, Karin has warmed the hearts of South Africans across the country with her powerful voice. Her musical journey started from humble beginnings.
Born and raised in Grabouw, Cape Town, Karin was packing apples at an orchard before she became the winner of the South African version of Idols hosted by a local television station, in 2005.
It was a rag to riches tale but more significantly, she was the first black individual to win the competition. Although there were many stumbling blocks in her career, she never gave up on her passion and eventually rose again.
Today, she manages her own brand and has taken complete control of her career. She uses her experiences to encourage and help the youth to start their singing careers. She also started her own foundation in order to help and inspire marginalised youth in the country.
