Hosts of Food Jams

Food Jams's Jade de Waal and Chef Lu join us in the loft for a Valentine's Day-inspired cook-a-long and share recipe inspirations for a romantic meal in.

Jade made a name for herself as one of the contestants on the first MasterChef South Africa. Since then, she has had a significant impact on the culinary industry in the country.

She started Food Jams in 2010 whilst studying jazz. While jamming out with other musicians, Jade realized that the nights would often end with the musicians being hungry. As a result, she would invite the group to her place where she would serve them food.

After seeing her love of the culinary arts, Jade’s friends began asking her to teach them how to cook. They went from jamming music to jamming food together and the concept of Food James was established.

Food James is a cooking party for both friends and family. Food Jams currently has 6 hosts, including Jade. The venue is situated at Salt Orchard Precinct in Salt River.

Luhorna Southgate, aka Chef Lulu  is a superhost at Food Jams. She has over 15 years’ experience in the hospitality industry and has been working at Food Jams since 2018.

Chef Lulu is also the co-owner of Farm Boy Cuisine, a business consulting service that specialises in helping restaurants, guest houses and hotels streamline their business models to make it more profitable. They also offer wine tasting and dining experiences and cater for special occasions.

She will be giving us some fun and delightful ideas on how to spoil our loved ones this Valentine’s Day including a classic Whole Roast Chicken recipe with Vegetables and a delicious Flourless Chocolate Banana Bread.
