Ingrid Jones
Publisher, TV and Radio Presenter
In celebration of Women’s Month, we are joined by Publisher, TV and Radio Presenter, Ingrid Jones, as we chat about women, the media and her cookbook ‘The Lockdown Recipe Storytelling Book.’
Ingrid Jones is a woman that needs no introduction. She started out as a high school teacher before she decided to pursue a career in the media industry. Throughout her career, she published numerous magazines and was both a radio and TV presenter but soon realised that she wanted to help women of colour in the industry.
As a result, she co-founded her own all-black female-owned media company over a decade ago, Mikateko Media. Mikateko Media publishes the Inflight Magazines for numerous South African airlines including SAA, Mango and FastJet Airlines.
In early 2020, while South Africa was hit by the global Covid-19 pandemic, Ingrid decided that she wanted to help be a voice for the voiceless and this time, it was through a cookbook! She curated ‘The Lockdown Recipe Storytelling Book.’
The Lockdown Recipe Storytelling Book is a compilation of the stories and recipes by members of a Facebook initiative that Ingrid Jones curated. The initiative was a call to all South Africans to share their family recipes and by doing so, celebrate our heritage. The cookbook consists of numerous traditional South African recipes.
