The founders are Thando "Space" Mavumengwana and Siphumeze "Blax" Ramncwana.
They started out working for an NGO in our community running after school programs, support groups and youth development groups that grew their passion for developing their community and wanting to become a solution to the problems that their community faces. In between their work they had to prepare snacks for the kids and at some point help in cooking for camps and that is where the desire of cooking came about. They resigned from the NGO and started a small business from the R200 they borrowed from Spaces sister, from there they started to bake and sell muffins early in the morning from 5:30am.
They grew from there because most of the profit was invested back to the business till they were able to buy themselves the first trailer. They kept on pushing from there till they attracted some media attention, Daily Sun published their story, City Vision and CTV. They applied to be part of the incubation program by the UCT, GSB for 3 months and from there things started to change as they got opportunities to cater for amazing institution such as the Oxford University, Duke University, Starnford University, Redbull Amaphiko, Bertha Centre, University of New York etc.
Now they have grown into owning 4 food trailers, employed 5 full time staff and and 5 part time staff. They are a social enterprise that is intentional in making a change in their community, as now in South Africa we are facing high youth unemployment rates with 52% of the youth unemployed and 27% of those are graduates. Understanding how hard is to get a job without proper education they intentionally hire from the youth in the corners and up-skill them, give them job experience, give them hope and a second chance in life.
Their vision is to grow all over Cape Town creating more job opportunities and providing a personalized customer service with fresh quality and affordable food. They are currently selling Sausage Rolls, Beef Burgers, Hot Chips and Soft Drinks.
