Dr Leana Olivier
Joining us today is CEO of the Foundation for Alcohol Related Research, Dr Leana Oliver to help spread awareness on both the World Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Day an the International Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder day (FASD).
Due to very high prevalence rates in South Africa, FASD is a public health concern in many communities. Very little information is given to students in Health, education and social work sectors. It is essential to raise awareness in general, to manage and implement prevention strategies. The main focus is on Healthy Mother Healthy baby programme, to provide pregnant women with the necessary skills to make informed decisions regarding not only their own health but the health of their unborn babies.
