
Dr Carol Thomas
Dr Carol Thomas, multi award winning and celebrated specialist gynecologist sheds some light on cervical cancer which can affect as many as one in every 42 women in South Africa.
She received an award for her advocacy work in Reproductive and Sexual Health and Rights in South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa and was part of the technical task team on method choice for the National Contraceptive Guidelines.
She explores cost-effective, quality, health service delivery models for women that are economically self-sustaining with special focus on health care impact by mobile technology.
She has received a Social Innovation Award from SAB Foundation, Technology Innovation Agency and the Western Cape Government of Economic Development and was most recently one of the first South African Philips Innovation Fellow Finalists for iMobiMaMa, a mobile technology enabled collapsible kit for off-site early booking, recruiting and monitoring of pregnant women thereby creating jobs for trained lay women.
Her other venture, theWomanSpace, a nurse practitioner service with specialist gynaecologist oversight in order to provide the most cost-effective manner for women to enjoy private primary women’s health care through to specialist surgical interventions.
This year she was appointment Chairperson of the Steering Committee of the Royal College of Obstetrician and Gynaecologists Leading Safe Choices initiative in South Africa.
When she is not playing in the technology field, she is a champion of menopausal healthcare.
She becomes the first woman of the South African Menopause Society in November 2016.
