Private and Olympic Chef
We welcome back our favourite Olympic Chef, Chef Dion Vengatass, as he crafts incredible lunch box meals up in the loft for a Back to Work special.
Having started his culinary journey as a little one of just four years old, Dion’s grandmother, Ouma Violet, would often let him help her when she was cooking.
Ouma Violet taught him all the basics of cooking and from there, as they say, the rest is history.
Over the years, his passion and love for food has only grown. At high school, Dion took up the subject Hotelkeeping and Catering but received grief from his fellow classmates for choosing cookery over woodwork.
However their teasing never got him down, and as a result of pursuing his passion, he received a sponsorship to study at the Swiss Hotel School where he received a diploma in Hotel Management.
After a stint abroad, Dion worked at Saxon Hotel as a Demi chef de partie where he honed his craft into what we see today. Working under some of the finest chefs in SA.
While working at the Saxon, Dion met Chef Rudi Liebenberg who was thoroughly impressed with him, and subsequently offered him a position at the Mount Nelson Hotel, and he’s been making waves in the culinary industry ever since.
In 2016, Dion had the honour of representing South Africa as part of the culinary national team in the 2016 Olympics.
And today, he will be joining us in the loft to give you incredible lunch box ideas to make returning to work so much tastier!
