Darren English & Ancient Voices
This Saturday's 2020 Jazz & Classical Encounters Festival Vol 2 will be featuring some of the best South African jazz and classical artists in a feast of contemporary music, and we are lucky enough to have two of those amazing musical acts in studio - Darren English & Ancient Voices - for a very special performance.
Darren English is a South African multi-instrumentalist, visual artist and award-winning jazz musician who has really taken the Jazz music industry by storm. Not only has he won numerous awards throughout the years, but perhaps most impressive is his Honor of Recognition by Dr Max Price from The University of Cape Town - for being the first ever student in the history of the University to be Awarded 100% full scored for both major and minor Honors recitals in 2012.
He has performed with many well known artists such as 5-time Grammy award-winning bassist and producer Victor Wooten, Emmy Award Winner Luke Gransden, The Marcus Lewis Big Band and many more.
We're also really excited to have Ancient Voices, which is made up of Lungiswa Plaatjies, Nomapostile Nyiki and Nomakrestu Xakatugagyou. The vocalists, composers, arrangers and multi-instrumentalists are passionate about reviving the use of lesser known African instruments to a wide ranging contemporary audience. We chat to them about where they draw their inspiration from to create their music & sound.
