Dion Vengatass
Private Chef, Olympic Chef
We welcome back our favourite Olympic Chef, Chef Dion Vengatass, as he spices things up in the loft with a delicious Curry Masterclass
Dion’s culinary journey began as a child when he was just four years old. His grandmother, Ouma Violet, would often let him help her when she was cooking. Ouma Violet taught him all the basics of cooking and it was because of her that he developed a passion and love for food.
During high school, Dion took up the subject Hotelkeeping and Catering but received grief from his fellow classmates for choosing cookery over woodwork. He did not let their teasing get to him and as a result of pursuing his passion, he received a sponsorship to study at the Swiss Hotel School where he received a diploma in Hotel Management.
After spending some time traveling, Dion received a job at the Saxon hotel as a Demi chef de partie. During his time there, Dion met Chef Rudi Liebenberg that offered him a position at the Mount Nelson Hotel, and he has been making waves in the industry ever since.
In 2016, Chef Dion represented South Africa as part of the culinary national team in the 2016 Olympics. Today, he will be teaching us about all things spices and curry!
