Butterfly Art Project
We are joined by Valry Makobe, who is the Community Art Partners Manager for the Butterfly Art Project. The Butterfly Art Project is a collective of artists, community art teachers and helpers, who want to see children creativity thrive in South Africa.
They are an organisation of passionate volunteers and staff, and it has gone on to gain a lot of support all around the world. The Butterfly Art Project has currently two major programmes first is an Art centre in a disadvantaged community working, that has to 1010 kids per week. The second is a Community Art Partners programme that focuses on teaching adults how to run their own art interventions in their own communities.
The children are given the chance to express themselves different art mediums that are offered, and are given a safe space to grow positively, in the programme. The youth in the community that they are based in face many issues such as poverty, teenage pregnancy, gangsterism and drugs. Which is why the Butterfly Art Project is a necessity to help them deal with any trauma that they have faced or might have to.
