Big Star

We are are joined by rapper, songwriter, producer and all round musician Big Star, formally known as BigStar Johnson, for the first time in the loft. The “Pablo” hitmaker shot to fame in 2015 after winning a hip hop reality show competition.

Big Star whose real name is Tumelo Rakumako, is from Kempton Park, Johannesburg. He discovered his love for music while still in primary school, when he first heard hip hop back in 2003. He then would go to write his first rhymes, he would then go on to form a rap group with friends, in order to enter talent competitions. That is what made him realise that being a musician was the calling for him, he would then later get the name BigStar Johnson in high school.

Music is being Big Star’s first love, before he even became the success that he is today, he would teach kids around his community about music and how to play instruments, as he can play an impressive 6, which include bass, drums and keys, just to name a few.
