Dance for All’s Executive Artistic Director
Dance for All’s Executive Artistic Director, Allison Hendricks, chats to us about the positive social change dance can have on the youth in South Africa before some of her students give us a little sneak peek into what they’ve been up to.
Dance for All is a non-profit organization that gives children from historically disadvantaged communities the opportunity to obtain formal dance training. The mission of Dance for All is to help these children gain self-esteem through dance while also providing them with life skills, support for their personal development and open us career possibilities within the industry.
The organization is based in Athlone, Cape Town and offers free classes to the areas of Nyanga, Khayelitsha and Delft. The genres of dance offered include Ballet, Contemporary, Hip Hop, African and Spanish dance.
As many of the students live in poverty and unstable home environments, Dance for ALL offers them a safe space to go to after school. Many of Dance for All’s past students have achieved great success.
Having completed her Teachers Diploma in Dance and Performing Arts from the University of Cape Town’s School of Dance, Allison has over two decades of experience within the dance industry. In addition to teaching, she also coordinated all fundraising events for Dance For All.
