Most popularly known for her 7de Laan role as Aggie Ngwenya, Mimi Mahlasela is nothing like her character Aggie. We got up close and personal with the charismatic Mimi and let’s just say, we were never ready!
ABOUT THE ACTRESS
When were you born and where?
10 April 1982 at Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto.
Which school did you matriculate?
I matriculated at Waverley Girls High School, in Johannesburg, in 1999.
What was your favourite subject?
Speech and Drama.
What is your fondest memory about school?
The friends I made and of course the essons of growing up.
Where did you study drama?
Pretoria Technikon which is now known as Tshwane University of Technology (TUT)
What was your first job ever?
I played a ‘secretary’ for an ABSA in-house advertisement. I earned R4000 and went shopping with my cousin.
How long have you been on 7de Laan?
Seven years.
What was your first day on set like?
It was nerve-wracking but I enjoyed it.
What do you love about being a member of the 7de Laan cast?
The fact that I work with such amazing and talented people. And I get to do what I love every day.
What has been your most memorable fan experience on 7de Laan?
The first time I had a public appearance in Cape Town. The fan base there is so huge it’s overwhelming.
What would you like to see your character achieve or do?
I would lie to see her become more influential in terms of paying more attention to herself and her businesses (The cleaning service and her jewellery designs)
What crazy thing would you like to see your character do?
It would be really interesting to see Aggie go really psycho and loose her mind completely.
