World Taco Day with Chef Tjaart
Tuesday 4 October
Hola amigos, and happy World Taco Day! The fiery band ‘Los Gitanos’ joins us in the studio to take us through Latin America with their music. In the kitchen, we’re joined by fan-favourite Chef Tjaart who is full of tips and tricks to get the most out of your taco dishes.
Chef Jay kicks us off with a masterclass on how to make your own taco shells. This easy hack uses flour tortillas which can be kept in the freezer for up to 2 months! Feeling thirsty? This recipe also includes a delicious non-alcoholic margarita.
Our Clover Cajun Spiced Prawn Tacos are simply bursting with flavour! This dish is perfect to make and share with your loved ones.
Palesa and Panado share A Dose of Care with the Ihata Shelter in Bonteheuwel, Cape Town.
Guacamole is arguably one of the most important ingredients in any taco. Chef Tjaart shows us how to make the best guacamole you’ll ever taste. Top tips: the chilli is optional but adds a great punch to this guacamole. If you don’t have a pestle and mortar you can easily chop everything together on a chopping board or else pulse it together in a food processor.
Why not try this Taco Pie recipe next #TacoTuesday? Adjustments to this dish are super easy to accommodate everyone. You can substitute the beef mince for any mince of your choice, or even lentils. If you can’t find refried beans you can use any tinned beans, such as red or black beans.
To end things off, Chef’s Jay and Tjaart share a dessert taco recipe. These crunchy tortilla taco shells with cheesecake filling and topped with a delicious Fruits of the Forest sauce are super delicious.
‘Los Gitanos’ plays us out with their vibey rendition of Volare!
