Fresh Fish with Fishmonger Julie Carter
Tuesday 22 November
We’re getting fishy with our fresh fish and seafood themed week. Fishmonger, owner of Ocean Jewels Fish, and the fish-whisperer of the Cape, Julie Carter joins us in the loft. We celebrate the lovely Chef Tumi’s birthday!
Fish is a great source of high-quality protein, vitamin D and omega-3 fatty acids. Health experts recommend eating fish at least once or twice a week!
Julie teaches us how to clean and fillet a whole fish – it sounds intimidating but it’s totally doable at home.
There’s no denying that fish and chips is a fan favourite all over the world. Our chefs show you how to turn this pub grub staple into a dish fit for your inner foodie. Enjoy our recipe for Fish Goujons with Fresh Avocado Tartar Sauce.
Palesa & Panado share A Dose of Care with community worker Sinethemba Mtathi and his team for the great job they do ensuring his community, in Motherwell Gqerberha, is kept clean.
The next recipe, crispy Fish Frikkadels with Tomato Smoortjie, is bound to make you smile with familiar flavours and memories of childhood. These fish frikkadels are different from fishcakes because they use soaked bread instead of potatoes.
Light, fresh and delicious – this last recipe is the perfect way to hero a special fish. You’ve got to try our Whole Roasted and Stuffed Cod Fish. The best way to tell if your fish is done is by testing it with a fork at an angle, at the thickest point, and twist gently. The fish will flake easily when it's done and will lose its translucent or raw appearance.
Remember to join in on the conversation over on our socials: Pickled, fried, grilled, smoked and let’s not forget raw… There are so many ways to enjoy fish, what’s yours?
