We celebrate Mandela Day with guests Ahmed Kathrada, Mahotella Queens and Desré Buirski.

Honouring Madiba today, we welcome South African liberation struggle icon Ahmed Kathrada, a long-serving political prisoner on Robben Island during the Apartheid era and author of number of books on his experiences and also become a tour guide on the famous island.

Pioneers of Mbhaqanga music, the Mahotella Queens, perform for us on Afternoon Express and are quite possibly the perfect musical guests to honour Nelson Mandela. The group has been performing since 1964 with no signs of slowing down.

Also on this show, the creator of the famous Madiba shirt is in the loft, Karen Zoid returns to the show to talk about Bikers For Mandela we create a palate cleanser in a lemon sorbet, and in the kitchen Claire has a zest for zesty meals as she cooks Citrus-baked Whole Chicken with fresh fennel slaw.
