We are joined in studio by the Chair person of Thope Foundation, Xolisa Guluza. The foundation is a non-profit organisation that helps to empower young girls in South Africa.
The purpose of the Thope Foundation is to help young girls take on and face harsh challenges that they could be facing at school or within the community. The foundation offers leadership development and mentorship programmes, this allows the girls partaking in the foundation, to be able to build strong and trust worthy relationships with the women who are willing to help. The mentors who take part in the programmes are all either university students professionals who have a passion and skills to mentor and give care to young girls. The mentors are women from Khayelitsha who can be seen as inspiring and role models to the young girls of the community.
They aim is to transform the lives of all the children through education, and to make sure that women are afforded equal accessibility to quality socio-economic opportunities. The girls in the program all receive one-on-one mentoring.
“Our programs are designed in such a way that girls and mentors are provided with several opportunities to create and lead projects that develop their leadership capabilities.”
