We are joined by one of South Africa's hottest bands, Urban Village in the loft. The band consists of lead vocalist and flute player Tubatsi Moloi, drummer Xolani Mtshali, bass guitarist Simangaliso Dlamini, and lead guitarist Lerato Lichaba.
The band was founded by lead guitarist Lerato, in 2014, he had been playing the guitar since the age of 16 years old. their music cant truly be categorised in one genre, but it has been previously described as folk music with an electronic sound to it, with a hint of contemporary to it. What truly makes them unique is their ability to fuse maskandi, mbaqanga and folk rock, all into one sound.
The band has said that it’s sound is influenced society’s daily struggles, they sound fuses both rural and urban influences, with all members being from Soweto in Johannesburg. Even though the band is still on the rise that have formed at many well known places such as Oppikoppi, Zakifo Musik Festival, they have even performed at international festivals in countries such as Tanzania, Holland, Spain, Belgium, and many others.
