We are joined by artist Tony Gum in the loft as she sets to launch her first ever solo exhibition, in Cape Town. Vogue has previously even named her “The Coolest Girl in Cape Town.”
Her exhibition will be held at the Christopher Moller Gallery in Kloof Nek, Cape Town on Friday, 29 September, 2017, and is titled “Ode to She”. It will be centred around her explorations and discoveries of what it means to be a Xhosa woman.
When she was 18 years old, she released published a collection of images, on Instagram, that she had taken. The series was called “Black Cola” and it got her attention from many people and brands all over the world.
She recently returned from a trip in Tokyo, Japan, were she was asked to be a speaker on the topics of diversity and identity from a global perspective, from the point of view of an ‘artist in learning’, which is what she calls herself. While she was there she got a chance to meet other amazing artists such as Erykah Badu.
