We are joined here in studio by actress Sphelele Mzimela. The KwaZulu Natal born actress got her big break when she joined the cast of one of the biggest soapies in South Africa Isibaya.
She grew up in Gingindlovu, KwaZulu Natal. From the young age of 9 years old, she always knew that wanted to be an actress, which why it was no surprise that studied acting and trained to be a dancer and singer at the Durban University of Technology. However before that, she attempted to study Travel Management at her father’s request, but her heart wasn’t in it, which resulted in her failing it. It was only after that, that she convinced her family to let her study Television Production at AFDA, after studying Drama at DUT. It seemed as if the universe was agreeing with choice because in 2015 when she graduated from AFDA, the same year she also landed her role on Isibaya.
She plays the part of rural naive village named “Kentucky” on the show, which has made her appreciate so called “village girls” more. Her acting skills have also landed her on the fifth season of SHUGA, and also on another series that has yet to air.
Not only is she now an established actress, she is also a born again Christian and a volunteer counsellor at her local church.
“Before finding Christ, for the longest time I was struggling with just being content, I wasn’t content and always unsure of myself, doubting my talents, myself, my beauty, judging my body, always wondering what the future holds, and where my life is going to end up.”
