We are joined in the loft today by actress and rapper Maya Wegerif, who is better known throughout South Africa as Sho Madjozi. The young Tsonga rapper has been making her mark in the entertainment industry as a trendsetter and cool kid, with her biggest single being her hit track ‘Dumi Hi Phone’.
She has been seen as one of the leaders of the new school, in music and style. She started getting attention from the public for her role in the drama series Isithembiso, and after she featured on Okmalumkoolkat tracks ‘Ngiyashisa Bhe’ and the hit single ‘Gqi’. She is known for rapping in her own style in her mother tongue of Xitsonga and her latest hit single is no different.
She went to college in Massachusetts, in the United States, but her music clearly reflects her African culture. She is proudly African and has travelled to many African countries and she can speak Swahili fluently. In an age where many feel that the younger generations are loosing their culture, Sho Madjozi is here to help guide them, that they should be proud of their roots.
