Shamilla Miller

Shamilla Miller is a talented actress who graduated with a Bachelors degree in Film and Live performance from AFDA, after which she spent a few years moulding her craft on stage with the likes of David Kramer and Alfred Rietman. She then teamed up with Vulture Productions where she was a part of five plays that went on to show at the Artscape and Grahamstown festival.
After a string of commercials, she landed her first lead television role in a youth drama series AMAZA where she played a young Muslim girl that had a strong passion for surfing. Shamilla had to learn how to surf (the basics) for the role very quickly after she fibbed about being able to in the casting. All worked out in the end though.
Forced love season two was a production where Shamilla played the sexy seductress in the show “its funny because I never get to play sexy characters for some reason so I had a lot of fun with this one” she says.
Shamilla then appeared in a string of short films over the years. She was nominated for and won ‘best actress in a short film’ at the Mzanzi short film festival for her role in Nommer37.
She has also had her hand in a few international and local films
International Zulu, back to school mom
Local scardy Kat, finders keepers, sonskyn beperk
Since then Shamilla has been part of a few more Productions for TV
Top actor Africa (a reality show)
Isidingo – soap opera
ZIBONDIWE- series, drama
The Docket – series, crime drama
She also played Athena – the goddess of wisdom and war in the BBC 8 part series Troy-fall of a city (2018) which was a big international series on Netflix
Next up for Shamilla is The Girl From St. Agnes where she plays a teenage girl, Jenna Galloway 17, who is student at a prestigious girls catholic school. This show is due for release January 31 on showmax. "So I guess if we needed to talk about my biggest trial it would be losing out on playing the lead female in the feature film of nommer37. There was a schedule conflict it had with Troy and at the end of the day I lost out… I was heartbroken about it… but it was a good hard lesson to Learn.
Also I guess being a freelancer can be quite tough sometimes. Obviously the ‘not knowing where your next paycheck is coming from’  is part of that but for me… it’s more about being in stimulated. When I’m not working for a couple of months it’s more like “what can I do to fill my time and stay motivated”.
