Professor Pumla Dineo Gqola

We are joined activist, scholar, and award-winning author Professor Pumla Dineo Gqola, in the loft today. Professor Pumla Gqola is an associate professor of literary, media and gender studies, in the department of African literature at the School of Literature and Language Studies at University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg.

She has published many compelling and thought provoking books such as 'A Renegade Called Simphiwe', 'Reflecting Rogue: Inside the Mind of a Feminist', 'What is Slavery to Me?: Postcolonial/slave Memory in Post-apartheid South Africa', and 'Rape: A South African Nightmare'. Her work always reflects the important social issues that are constantly faced within South Africa.

She was previously a Chief Research Specialist: Societies, Cultures and Identities Programme at HSRC (Human Sciences Research Council), she has also previously been Senior Lecturer at the University of the Free State's Department of English and Classical Culture.
