Joining us on the couch today is the man behind recent hits such as ‘Charlotte’ and more recently ‘Club Controller’, Prince Kaybee. We talk to him about his recent success, fatherhood, and his recent win as ‘Male Artist of the Year’ at the 2018 South African Music Awards.
Born Kabelo Motsamai, Prince Kaybee grew up in Senekal, a town near Welkom in the Free State. He grew up as the youngest of his father’s 36 kids, but the only one to his mother. Life wasn’t always easy for him, as during his younger years, he dropped out of school in grade 11, eventually going to go live on the streets in Bloemfontein, after he had impregnated a girl he was seeing. Prince Kaybee has recently released a statement about his child and fatherhood, after a recent public claim made by the mother.
While there he started working around a few clubs as a DJ, until he found a residency at one of them. With the money that he made there, he managed to save enough to by a laptop in order to practice his DJ-ing and producing skills. This eventually led to him entering a SABC1 DJ competition, which got him his first bit of exposure.
