We chat to Pieter Dirk-Uys about World AIDS Day.

We know and love her as one of SA’s biggest icons of reconcilliation and we know and love him for being one of SA’s sharpest and funniets political satirists – she is of course Evita Bezuidenhoudt and he is the man behind the Boeretannie, Pieter-Dirk Uys. But Pieter is also celebrated worldwide for being an ardent HIV/Aids activist and educater and has since 2000 been travelling around South Africa, visiting over 1.5 million school children, prisons and reformatories to teach them about HIV/aids.

Pieter-Dirk Uys first began travelling around South Africa with his free AIDS-awareness entertainment, For Facts Sake!, in 2000. Since then, he has visited over 1,5 million school children, as well as prisons and reformatories. He has also released a corporate AIDS-information video, Having Sex with Pieter-Dirk Uys; the family-friendly video, Survival Aids; and Just a Small Prick!, a treatment of the fears surrounding testing for HIV.
