We are joined here on the couch by actor and mother Nokuthula Ledwaba. The Soweto born actress started her career at the young age of 19 years old, in community theatre.
Her road to stardom was not an easy one, she has mentioned that in her early years that she was rideculed by older actress, and had to deal with harassment from male directors. She is now a well accomplished actress, playing numerous roles in film and television, such as Rhythm City and the 2016 remake of the classic American series Roots. The original 1977 version of Roots still still remains one of the highest most watched drama series in American television history. In the remake Nokuthula played a prominent role as main protagonist Kunta Kinte’s mother, she starred in the series alongside credited Hollywood actors such as Forest Whitaker, Laurence Fishburne and Anika Rose.
When she got the role however, she didn’t have to celebrate it as she had to deal with an ill mother. Her role in Roots was almost like paying homage to her mother, since they used to watch the show together when Nokuthula was young, sadly though her mother passed away before she started shooting it.
