Former UN Human Rights Commissioner Navi Pillay joins us in the loft.
This past Monday, we celebrated Human Rights Day, a date set aside to remember our past and look towards a bright future. Human rights are still an issue across the country and the world. Today on Afternoon Express we're privileged to welcome former Former UN Human Rights Commissioner Navi Pillay who will discuss the issues the planet currently faces to progress to a more accepting society.
Pillay served as Human Rights Commissioner from 2008 to 2014 and currently is the 16th Commissioner of the International Commission Against the Death Penalty. Born in Durban, she graduated with her BA from the University of Natal in 1963 and obtained further education at Harvard in 1982, becoming the first South African to achieve a doctorate from the university.
