Township opera prodigy Mthetho Maphoyi is in the loft with his inspiring story.
Mtetho Maphoyi, a talented orphan from a township in the Western Cape, was inspired to become an opera singer by a Pavarotti CD his late father left behind. The self-taught opera singer is now considered a bright talent of the future for opera. Maphoyi’s heart-warming story has inspired many and he has been profiled by the international media including The Huffington Post and the BBC.
South Africa has produced an enviable list of international opera talents including: Pretty Yende, Vuyani Mlinde, Pumeza Matshikiza and Luthando Qave. Maphoyi hopes to follow in their footsteps. He is working towards completing Matric and earning a music qualification at University.
