We are joined by actress and voice-over artist, Mampho Brescia. She has acted in a number of local and international soapies and films, but is best known as Iris, in Isibaya.
Mampho always that she was going to be an actress from a young age, when she first took part in a school play at the age of 7 years old, and she has worked hard throughout her career to get where she is now. She has said that her father installed the love for film in her, as they had a tradition at home that on Sundays they would sit in and watch historical films.
She has sited that one of her favourite roles that she has ever played was in an American short film titled ‘What to bring to America’, were she plays an Ethiopian immigrant that was living in Los Angeles, who has to deal with the decision of her daughter’s circumcision, after receiving pressure from her family. One the reasons why she loved the role was because it pushed her talents as an actor, having to have maternal instincts without even being a mother at the time, and the fact that she had to learn a new language Amharic. Mampho also speaks other foreign languages such Japanese from the time that she lived in Japan, and she also speaks Italian due to having an Italian husband.
