Maite Makgoba & Molemo Kgomo
We chat to Maite Makgoba and Molemo Kgomo about their unique African dolls.
While girl's toys are dominated by non-African dolls, such as those imported from Europe and America, Maite saw a gap in the market as a woman who fully understands the beauty of African women, and went out and created the now popular Momppy Mpoppy brand of dolls which is changing the perception little girls have about African beauty.
Molemo's Ntombenhle dolls were treated as a result of her battling to get a doll fit her daughter who was about 18-months old in 2005 and was looking for a doll that would represent who she is, a beautiful African girl! She wanted to create a doll that will represent all African kids, to create awareness of their beauty, their heritage, and their culture.
