We hear from the inspiring wheelchair tennis champion Lucas Sithole.
Lucas is currently South Africa’s number 1 ranked player in the Quad division, and is No.4 on the World Rankings. Lucas is a great athlete who has excelled in many sports including basketball and rugby. He is unbelievably competitive, a great team player and has a natural ability for tennis.
Lucas hails from Newcastle, where he attended Bumbisiswe Special School during his primary school years, and Filadelphia School in Shoshunguve, Pretoria to complete his secondary schooling. Although Lucas was introduced to Wheelchair Tennis in 2007, he had little formal coaching and no individual coaching until 2010, when he was accepted onto the Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture residential programme. In a short period of time Lucas has not only mastered the tennis skills but has managed to win no less than 25 singles titles, and a career high ranking of 2 in the world. We believe with dedicated work, Lucas will certainly be able to get to the top in the world, and be a medal contender at the 2016 Paralympics.
Lucas is presently looking at business opportunities in and around the Newcastle area, is active in providing sporting opportunities for youth there, and has released a music CD with a band from home.
