We are joined in studio by political activist turned singer and songwriter, Jennifer Ferguson. Jennifer is political activist who is a former member of Parliament as part of the African National Congress, but she gave that up to pursue her career in the music industry.
Jennifer grew up in a town south of Johannesburg called Ermelo, which was where her love of music started, even though she was drawn into the world of politics. She would find music as a form of expression, due the things that were happening in the country at the time of the 80’s, she would use music to express her anger. During this time she released two albums ‘Hand around the Heart’ and ‘Untimely’, in 1986 and 1989, respectively. Due to the nature of her music, it recived no airplay and was banned on a many stations, this resulted in her being one of the most sought after touring artists though
She is now married, with a family, whom she loves to work with in her music. She often works with her husband who is a music director, conductor and composer. Her children are also performers and at times perform alongside her on stage, or appear in her music videos.
