We are joined by one of South Africa's most popular bands, Freshlyground. The band has been a mainstay in the South African music scene since the early 2000’s, after it was formed in 2002.
The group consists of members from Mozambique, Zimbabwe and South Africa, and is fronted by singer Zolani Mahola. In 2003, they released their first album ‘Jika Jika’ which was under the label that they had established, Freeground Record Label. They had one of their biggest years in 2005, when their single “Doo Be Doo” became the most played song in South Africa that year, according to statistics. The single was off their second album ‘Nomvula’, and it instantly made the band a household name, with the album going multi-platinum and selling over 300 000 units. They are known for their riveting and exciting live performances and energy.
This has resulted in them having a highly successful career locally and internationally, having toured the around the world multiple times, even being acknowledged by former United States President Barack Obama. They have released six studio albums together with the most recent ‘Cant Stop’, being released in early 2018. Their latest single off the album is set to be released on September 3rd.
