Joining us for the cook-a-long is performance art duo FAKA, it consists of Desire Marea and Fela Gucci. They came together in 2015, and they describe themselves as a cultural movement.
They are much more than just musicians as they also combine a number of arts such as literature, live performance, video, photography and sound, all to create their projects. Their projects constantly explore the themes of pushing the so called ‘norm’ to the boundaries, as they express what the experience is like of being black queers in modern day South africa. They first gained recognition in 2015 when they presented “#Wait Lorraine: A Wemmer Pan-African Introduction to Siyakaka Feminism” at the Hazard Gallery. In 2016 the duo released their EP, the Bottoms Revenge, with a sound that has been described as ancestral gqom gospel. Their unique sound and outlook has led to them performing at multiple international festivals such as FLOW Festival, Digging the Global South, and Unsound Festival Poland, among others.
The duo have been going from strength to strength as 2018 saw them head over to Milan Italy, where they got front row seats to the Versace pring/summer 2019 menswear collection, as their music was used as the soundtrack to the collection.
