Encounters Documentary Festival

Directors from the Encounters Documentary Festival shares their films.

On the couch today, we have two directors form the Encounters Documentary festival which started on the 2 ended on the 12 June in both Cape Town and Durban.

First, we chat to Tina-Louise Smith. Smith, who has worked as researcher, production manager and editor, was also the co-Chair of the Documentary Filmmakers’ Association in 2011 where she founded Perspective, a publication of interviews with South African documentary filmmakers. She launched the Business Model Canvas tool at the Durban FilmMart (2015). Her work as producer/ director includes Engender (Cape Town Community TV), a 3-part feminist show, as well as SABC documentary TV series.

We're also talking to Jean-Paul Moodie, who embarked on a film career ‘later in life’, made a few short documentaries then completed his first feature, The Black Christ. Winner of the Shnit International Short Film Festival’s Real-Time award for his remake of Hitchcock’s Man from the South, he is currently developing another documentary and the pilot for a fictional series.
