Claire McFarlane talks to us about her 16-year battle with the French legal system over her rape.
On the night of 18 July 1999, Claire McFarlane, a South African-born Australian and self-funding student working in Paris, was brutally raped and left for dead. 10 years later, her attacker was apprehended and jailed for 12 years. However, because Claire was not a citizen of France, she had to pay all of her own legal fees and was constantly called back to the country on hearing that the man who raped her was released from prison after only serving less than four years of his sentence.
Now, Claire shares her story all around the world and this July she will be running along 186 beaches across the world as part of her #ProjectBRA campaign.
