We are joined by master of hand-thrown ceramics, Chuma Maweni in the studio. The Cape Town-based ceramicist is known for his hand-coiled shapes with precise patterned incisions. Not only does he make ceramics but he is also known for his furniture, with his most famous being his Imbizo series of tables, side-tables and stools.
His passion for ceramics began when he was young, growing up in the Eastern Cape, making clay figures of animals. Following that he went on to graduate at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in 2002, with a B-Tech degree in ceramics. He has won countless awards due to his craft and opened up his own studio in 2016.
