Carissa Cupido
Carissa Cupido grew up in Strandfontein as a curious, creative and driven kid with ambitions to become a journalist. The radio bug hit in the final years of high school where her job shadowing led her to a magazine office for one week and a community radio station for another. Her path was set and when varsity came around along with juggling a triple major in English, Media Studies and Social Anthropology, and later completing her honours in Social Anthropology, she did 4 years of campus radio.
At the end of 2015, Carissa joined Good Hope FM pushing a graveyard slot (1-4am). The show was aptly called PUSH. The time of day didn’t limit her ambitions, though. Going into 2016 she hosted the 2016 J&B met alongside DJ Loyd and Kurt Schoonrad. 2016 was also the year that Carissa auditioned for TLC’s Next Great Presenter, who were looking for a presenter on the African continent. Carissa won the competitions, being the first South African. The prize of the contest was to present her own show: TLC Most Extreme which was shot in London. At the end of 2016, she was also promoted on radio from the graveyard shift to the weekends!
