Whether its Gqom, hip hop commercial house or poetry, Busiswa can do it all. She has gone on to become one of the most recognisable voices in the music scene, and every song she is on is almost guaranteed to be a hit, and have everyone on their feet dancing. She joins us on the couch to talk about how she is managing to balance an incredibly busy career as well as being a new mother.
Busiswa who is also known as “Kalawa Chikita” may have lived in Durban for half her life, but was born and spent her early years inMthatha in the Eastern Cape. She went on to burst onto the scene in 2013, when she featured on DJ Zinhle’s smash hit ‘My Name Is’, and since then she has proved that she is a powerhouse that is here to stay. It was after that, that she was signed to Kalawa Jazmee by the industry legend Oskido.
She started out as a poet in her early years but found love in mixing it with music, when she started combining the two back in 2010. This is evident as she clearly comfortable in different genres and does not limit herself to one spectrum. Her poetry skills have also been featured in Hip Hop heavyweight Tumi's song ‘Visa’.
Even though Busiswa is a new mother, and has beautiful baby boy to take care of, she was still able to release her latest album titled ‘High Flavoured’. The album features many many collaborations with some of biggest names across Africa such as Heavy K, Kwesta, DJ Maphorisa, DJ Zinhle, and D’Banj, among others.
